I’m a writer from London based in Beijing. I’ve written for The New York Review of Books on kinship ties in post-protest Hong Kong and for The Dial on how transgender people in China — no matter their age — require parental consent to transition. I’ve interviewed Chinese students on surveillance in the US for The Atlantic, profiled Chinese celebrity Fan Bingbing for Kinfolk, and investigated crypto exchange FTX’s Japan arm for CoinDesk (the CEO was fired shortly after publication). I’ve been interviewed on NPR’s Weekend Edition and Times Radio.
I also write a food blog in Chinese @lavender做饭 on RedNote, which has 14,000 followers. I speak Cantonese and Mandarin.
